Moderne was a sub-style of architecture
often used for governmental buildings, the
U.S. Post Office being the best example in
Miami Beach. Miami Beach architects used
local imagery to create what we now call
Tropical Deco. These buildings showcase
relief ornamentation featuring whimsical
flora, fauna and ocean-liner motifs to
reinforce the image of Miami Beach as a
seaside resort. Neon lighting in a rainbow
of colors for both interior and exterior
illumination and decoration is quite
prominent.
Visitors and residents of South Beach can
ride the
Electrowave, an all-electric transit
system shuttle that stops at 37 designated
local throughout Miami Beach shopping
district. The
local transit busses cover Miami-Dade
routes and serve Greater Miami and the
Beaches daily, including the
Miami Seaquarium, the
Orange Bowl Stadium, the
Miami-Dade Cultural Center and
Metro zoo. You don’t need your car to
get around to the amenities Miami Beach, FL
has to offer. You can rent a scooter, or use
your own bicycle to traverse the island
community. You’ll find the traffic to be
peddler friendly.
For those who are more at home on the water
than just near it, Miami Beach has one of
the most beautiful and functional Marinas
around. Located adjacent to Government Cut,
with no fixed bridges and plenty of deep
water,
Miami Beach Marina affords easy
accessibility to great
fishing...sailing...and cruising.
